The Tuality Healthcare Foundation works with volunteers and donors to build a healthier community. Through special events, annual giving and major gift programs, and planned giving and estate planning, we work to meet the healthcare needs of western Washington County. The community's generous donations are used to build and renovate facilities, purchase new equipment, provide educational scholarships, fund capital projects, provide important health education classes and programs, and establish endowments for future needs. |
In 1918, an enterprising woman named Minnie Jones Coy established the Jones Hospital, the cornerstone of Tuality Healthcare. With only a fifth grade education, Minnie took the initiative to meet a vital need she saw in the community and set up a hospital in her own home. She brought independent physicians together under one roof and led the group for many years in the Jones Hospital.
When Minnie passed away in 1952, these community-minded physicians pooled their resources, bought the hospital from the estate, and set it up as a nonprofit institution. Excess revenues realized from running the hospital have always gone back into improving the quality of care for everyone in the community.
Tuality Healthcare was founded upon the primary mission of providing local residents competent medical care with compassion, integrity, and a high regard for human dignity and without regard for the recipient's ability to pay.
Inherent to this mission is the belief that knowledge is the foundation of wellness. In 1970, the Tuality Healthcare Foundation was established on this basic principle, to promote better healthcare through education and prevention, and to improve the quality of life for families in western Washington County.
Tuality Healthcare Foundation $2.5 Million Cancer Campaign a Success
Thanks to your generosity—we did it!
More than 2,000 contributors have made the Cancer Campaign a rousing success, allowing Tuality Healthcare to expand vitally needed cancer services.

Your gifts have helped us complete the picture of cancer care in Western Washington County. Your contributions will make a difference in three ways:
Tuality/OHSU Cancer Center
Thanks to you, area cancer patients no longer need to travel outside the community for radiation treatments. Now we can serve these patients and their families right here at home. The Tuality/OHSU Cancer Center opened in 2002 and serves about 170 cancer patients each year with state-of-the art diagnostic and radiation-oncology services.
The caring staff of the Tuality/OHSU Cancer Center are grateful for the opportunity you have given them to make such a difference in peoples’ lives.
Tuality Breast Health Center
Phase One of Tuality’s Breast Health Center opened in 2003, bringing such advances as computer-aided detection for mammography, ultrasounds, stereotactic biopsy, and bone densitometry equipment. Early detection is often the key to survival, so we will continue to do all we can to provide easy access to appropriate cancer screening and provide educational resources and counseling services.

Breast Health Center Program Coordinator
Thanks to you, breast cancer patients now have an important new resource to help guide them through their treatment. Amy Kaiser has joined us as the new Breast Health Coordinator. Her background in Oncology Nursing at HSU combined with a degree in Public Health make her ideally seated for this new position.
Amy will help guide patients through diagnostic and treatment services, including ultrasound and on-site biopsy, when needed.
Because this is such a traumatic time in a patient's life, those diagnosed with breast cancer will have continued support from Amy throughout treatment, including counseling and guidance about treatment options, access to educational materials and assistance linking up with support groups.
You have helped us add the missing pieces to fight cancer…but the effort continues
Thanks to the community, Tuality now has important new resources for those who will be affected by cancer. But there is more to do. We will continue to raise funds to enhance our cancer programs through events such as the C.A.T Walk, through general appeals and special projects. So we hope you will continue to be a partner in this ongoing effort and will continue to give us your support in any way you can.

Building the Tuality Health Education Center
In 1980, the Tuality Healthcare Foundation Board of Directors had the vision of building a comprehensive health education facility that would serve as a resource center providing a wide variety of practical health education and information programs at little or no cost to area residents.
In 1986, the vision became a reality with the opening of the Tuality Health Education Center: a freestanding facility located across the street from Tuality Community Hospital made possible through the generous charitable gifts and commitments of an actively involved community.
Today, the Health Education Center touches the lives of more than 150,000 men, women, and children each year who all benefit from health education programs and services designed to provide helpful and timely healthcare information.

Raines Dialysis Center
The Tuality Healthcare Foundation received its largest-ever outright gift in 1999. The $400,000 donation from the Raines Family, led by Ralph Raines, Sr., was used to build the Raines Dialysis Center, which opened in November 1999. The center, located at Tuality Forest Grove Hospital, provides life-saving service for patients who formerly had to drive long distances for treatment.

Continuing the Tradition of Giving
The Tuality Healthcare Foundation remains focused on improving the quality of life for community residents. The Foundation supports a variety of programs and capital technology projects that positively impact the health and wellness of western Washington County. Contributions to the Tuality Healthcare Foundation are vital in promoting our mission of "building a healthier community" now and for future generations.
